Newville is a great place. Visited there many times as a kid. My counsin Jim Swartz had a gas station at the traffic light. My Dad and his Dad grew up there. They owned the farm that Big Springs High School is located on. Great memories for Newville.

I was hoping to find a photo of the Post Office Building. I was doing some research on Randy Shughart and know that the PO’s name was changed…and hoped to see the building

Is the fountain still there? I remember going to the 5 & Dime and playing by the fountain when I was a child visiting my Aunt Nettie, 45 years ago!

What is Cobblerville? My gggreat grandfather, Samuel Jones, lived in the Newville area and he was a cobbler. Is that where show makers hung out?

    Thanks

Does anyone know what Elliott family is in the pictures at Newville? Who posted those pictures by the way.
My ancestors, Hursh and Getter, lived at Newville. Great grandfather, Daniel W. Hursh was born there then left for Macon County, Illinois where I was born.

does anyone know anything about the mill that used to be on Mill Rd/Ln. just a little ways north of hwy 641-Carlisle Rd.?
Looking at the site on “live search maps,” it appears that only the ruins are left. I kind of like to see and photograph mills, including ruins. We’re hoping to drive up there in the next day or so from KY & would love to know more abt this mill.
    Thank you.

I don’t think the mill is haunted. It’s just Fred Potzer and Jerry Stamy running around with old flour sacks over their heads…they do it all the time!

This past weekened my sister and I discovered Newville, PA. We love taking drives and so we ventured off the I-81 at the Newville exit. What a quaint and charming town. The old mill caught our eye as well as all the charming homes. I felt like I had gone back in time and the feeling was great. This town is a gem and we plan to go back and spend more time there.

Hi, I’m from the Youtz line of lineage that first started Youtztown that is now called Newville. Is this the Newville that was Youtztown or is there another Newville in Pa??

I used to live at 54 E. Main, they did add a driveway to E. Glebe. I still visit every once in a while. I love it there.

Back in 1973, I owned 81 E. Main St. From Google Earth it now appears that Cleo Mowry’s house next to the mill is gone and there is a park there. Also, is there now a driveway or road connecting E. Main from E. Glebe? Interesting to see these changes from out here in San Jose, CA.

I’ve got some old Newville, PA photos, etc. and will be glad to contribute them to this site if the admin will send me an email and request them.

    Thanks!
